Festival Director, Walter Smith, announced today that Portland printmaker, Christy Wyckoff will serve as juror and exhibit as featured artist at the Silver Anniversary Wallowa Valley Festival of the Arts. Fresh from six month’s five months in Brazil, where he worked as artist-in-residence and visiting professor at the University of S„o Paulo, Wyckoff will judge and critique the work of the one hundred artists expected to exhibit at the Wallowa County Festival 1-3 June, 2007. Wyckoff’s work is included in collections and galleries in New York, Seattle, Portland, Japan and Brazil. He is a founding member of Blackfish Gallery, a Portland artist’s cooperative now in it’s its 27th year. Wyckoff has been included in museum exhibitions including The Plates: International Contemporary Print Art at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and a solo exhibition of his prints at the Museu da Gravura Cidade de Curitiba (Brazil). Wyckoff’s work was included in the Portland Center for the Visual Art’s (PCVA) important exhibition “In Touch: Nature, Ritual and Sensuous Art from the Northwest” curated by Lucy Lippard. Wyckoff also exhibited his work at the Greg Kucera Gallery in Seattle, the Alternative Museum in NYC and in several group exhibitions at the Portland Art Museum. His work is in several collections including the Vivian and Gordon Gilkey Collection of the Portland Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), the New York Public Library and the Tacoma Museum of Art.
Christy Wyckoff is a professor and chair of the printmaking department at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland. He holds a BFA from the University of Oregon and an MFA from the University of Washington. where he studied with Bill Ritchie and Glen Alps. Professor Wyckoff was co-curator of the recent exhibition Northwest Masters: Forgotten Prints from 1910-1945 for the Portland Art Museum. That exhibition surveys the beginning of printmaking in the Northwestern part of USA. Wyckoff has traveled and worked in residency in Portugal, Brazil and Japan. “We are indeed fortunate to have Christy Wyckoff join us as our Silver Anniversary juror and featured artist”, said Smith.
