WVFA Call to Artists - 2017

*35th Annual Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts*
September 13-17, 2017; Joseph, Oregon
Venues: Joseph Community Center (JCC) & Josephy Center for Arts and Culture (JCAC)

Dear Artists,

Last year, we invited you all to, "Come out and play", amid the Wonder of the Wallowas! Well, many of you took us up on our offer…and what an amazing time we had…so much so, that we can't wait to do it again! Please join us, in Joseph, next September 13-17, for the 35th Annual Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts. We're celebrating our 35th birthday, and we'd be honored to have you and your art here with us!

The Wallowa Valley is truly a special spot on the map. Our breathtaking scenery captivates the heart, piques the imagination, and has a knack for unleashing the artist within us all. It's not by coincidence, that this beloved corner of Oregon is renowned for its vibrant community of artists, its exquisite galleries, its numerous bronze foundries, and its "WOW-inducing" Main Street art installations. Whether you're a local artist who has lived here most of your life, or you've never ventured quite this far out to the "End of the Road", we encourage you to come and let yourself experience, anew, how this place will enchant and inspire you. And, while you're at it, be sure to step out and play a bit…take advantage of the myriad outdoor recreation opportunities this area has to offer. And, what better time to explore Joseph and the Wallowas, than during colorfully placid September? Some have even taken to calling it our fifth season - our "Season of Art".

Based on encouraging feedback from last year's artists and festival-goers, as well as improved art sales over previous years, we feel that moving the festival from June to September was a sound decision. So, in an effort to continue that trend and draw a larger audience to your art, our 2017 dates for the Fine Art Show (including Opening Reception, Night of the Quick Draw, and Silent Auction), will be September 15th - 17th. We're also excited to, once again, offer our optional En Plein Air Competition, commencing on the morning of Wed., Sept. 13th, and culminating on Thurs., Sept. 14th, with a special reception and art hanging at the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture (please refer to our Prospectus for all the details on this event). We will also, again, host an early-evening Joseph Gallery Walk, selected showings of winning short films from past Ruby Peak Film Festivals, and a special Local Youth Arts Showcase. We are also pleased to announce an intimate Saturday Pastel Painting Workshop, with this year's judge, Bonnie Griffith (please refer to our Prospectus for all the details on this event).

The Wallowa Valley Festival of Arts is the largest juried fine art exhibition in Eastern Oregon, featuring representational/traditional realism from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, as well as contemporary art. The festival reflects the beauty, culture, and traditions of our region through its arts and artists. Consistent with that intent, any subject, style or medium within the categories listed below will be considered by our jury. Exhibition space is limited, so jurors will select pieces that are most appropriate for the venue and our diverse audience. The categories are as follows:

Painting: Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor
Sculpture Any Three-Dimensional Work in Wood, Clay, Stone, Bronze, or other Metal
Pastel, Pencil, Graphite, Charcoal, Ink, or any combination thereof
Printmaking Wood block, Engraving, Etching, Monoprint, Aquatint, Linotype, Lithography, Silkscreen, or

Photography: Any Photograph that begins with the capture of the image through a lens, including Digitally
